UN warns of global heat records in August

RED ALERT – Heat records were reached around the world in August, according to the World Meteorological Organization, a UN agency.

Record heat was reached in several parts of the world in August, triggering a “red alert,” according to Celeste Saulo, director of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a UN agency. At a regional climate forum in Singapore, she expressed concern about rising global temperatures. “We are worried but not paralyzed.”

Indeed, for the second consecutive year, the global average temperature in August reached historic levels, according to preliminary data from the European Copernicus observatory, consulted by AFP.

Asia and Oceania, the most affected continents

Countries including Australia, Japan, and some provinces in China, as well as Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic, all experienced their hottest Augusts on record, according to various local weather agencies. “It’s clear that temperatures are rising… beyond what we would like,” Saulo said, adding that this is due to insufficient climate action.
