Save money: do you know about “rounding up savings”?

In some countries, you are required to round up your bills. In France, many stores offer you the solidarity rounding: at the checkout, you can round up your purchases to benefit a charity. While many French people press the red button, there is another rounding, this time to earn money, explains RMC. It is called “savings rounding”. This rounding is in all respects similar to that at the checkout and offers the French to round up their purchases before creating a kitty on another account. In this way, you build up your savings.

The money can be placed either in a classic savings account such as the Livret A or the Livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS), or in a virtual kitty that does not bear interest. Last possibility: in a cryptocurrency wallet. In concrete terms, all purchases are rounded up to the next euro. Thus, our colleagues take the example of a baguette that would cost 1.10 euros. A total of 2 euros will be debited, or 90 cents more than the price of the baguette. But the roundings are only debited twice a month: on the 15th and at the end.

For the time being, only a few banks offer this service, such as LCL, Monabanq or Revolut, as well as smartphone applications (Plum or Goin). In reality, the amounts saved are not significant and are equivalent to approximately 100 euros per year according to RMC calculations.
