In order to continue the work on the 3rd correction of the Rhône, the Valais State Council is submitting two commitment credits to the Grand Council. One, of 113 million francs, is to be used to finance the anticipated measure (AM) Iles des Clous. The construction of a new dike on the Vaud side and the reinforcement of the dike on the Valais side will provide lasting security for the municipalities of Vouvry (VS) and Yvorne (VD), the press release details.
In addition, a major widening of the Rhone will be carried out on a 2 km stretch located in an alluvial area of national importance. The Massongex-Bex Rhône anticipated measure extends over the territory of the municipalities of Massongex (VS), St-Maurice (VS) and Bex (VD), from the mouth of the Courset to downstream of the mouth of the Avançon. It concerns the development of approximately 6.4 km of banks aimed at eliminating the risk of dam failure, strengthening the banks with renaturation objectives.
Furthermore, the current pedestrian-cyclist bridge between Massongex and Bex will be moved and a new bridge will be built in its place, allowing the passage of public transport, also notes the Council of State.
