Hongqi, the brand that wants to compete with Rolls-Royce, arrives in with unbeatable prices

We discovered it during the Mondial de l’auto last October, and were even able to try the E-HS9, a large, hyper-luxurious SUV. Hongqi (pronounced Hong “Shi”, red flag in Chinese) is not a beginner since the firm has existed since 1958.

Its E-HS9 is a real behemoth that seeks nothing more and nothing less to tickle Rolls-Royce or Bentley. 5.20 m long, 650 hp strong and capable of traveling up to 515 km thanks to its 120 kWh capacity battery, its technical data is impressive. This is also the case inside since the quality of the materials is of a high level, but certain adjustments deserve more attention. The suspension comfort and low noise level work wonders. With a price of around €100,000, the Bentley Bentayga billed at least twice its price cannot stand the comparison. On the other hand, for the image…

More reasonable with its 4.92 m, the E-HS7 is also reasonable in terms of price. Poster from €53,990it can travel up to 475 km thanks to its 85 kWh battery and its power of 405 hp should be more than sufficient. A 326 hp BMW iX xDrive40 is less powerful, goes just as far while being much more expensive: from €84,250.

Even the cutting-edge version of this Hongqi E-HS7, the Exclusive, with 540 km of autonomy and 728 hp power is still cheaper, because billed from €68,990.

Finally, there remains the HS7 sedan with the same length as the E-HS7 (4.92 m), which can cover 510 km for €49,990. The high-end version with a power of 728 hp and a range of 640 km starts at €64,990.

“A new era”

The brand’s website modestly declares “new era of luxury”.

A website is online allowing you to configure your car. The distribution of Hongqi models is ensured by the importer Car East Europe, specializing in Chinese cars.

On paper, these new cars seem very interesting, in particular thanks to their excellent price/power/autonomy ratio. You just have to wait and see what they are worth on the road to get a more precise idea. The E-HS9 left us somewhat unsatisfied.
