Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson said he has never had a conversation with the leaders of the Canadian team at the 4 Nations.
“You hear all the noise and all the stuff in the media about the fact that a lot of people thought I was in the race,” Thompson said on the show The Fan Hockey Show Wednesday. “They never contacted me. It didn’t bother me.
“I wasn’t surprised to be left out of the squad, when they said they had contacted players who might be called up in case of injuries to come in as reinforcements. So if there were to be an injury, I know I probably won’t be called up. And it doesn’t matter, I know they have their guys. I just hope Canada wins this. »
Thompson ranks second among NHL goaltenders with a 2.09 goals-against average and his .925 save percentage is third league-wide.
The 27-year-old has a remarkable 22-2-3 record for the campaign.
Canada named Jordan Binnington (13-17-3/.898), Adin Hill (18-8-3/.901) and Sam Montembeault (17-16-3/.899) as its 4 Nations goaltenders in December.
-Don Sweeney, Canada’s general manager, said it would have been ideal to have more time to select goaltenders for the tournament.
“To be honest, I think there are several guys that were left out of the 4 Nations team in this lineup,” Thompson said.
Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy criticized his team’s goaltending Monday after Hill allowed four goals.
The 4 Nations Showdown will take place from February 12 to 20 in Montreal and Boston.
