Usually, at Saint-Michel-de-Bannières, Gaëligue Jos, the mayor, organizes informational meetings on important topics rather than a traditional greeting ceremony. This year it was different. She wanted to be transparent about the projects and difficulties of her town hall. The wish ceremony took place on Saturday January 11 at the Saint-Michel school, with the entire municipal team, and the residents were there.

It must be said that the current projects are significant since it involves finally renovating the multipurpose room or rather creating a “plural space” starting with the roof and the attic which are leaking and where a chimney threatens to collapse. collapse. A project which will precede the “Heart of the village” operation, the objective of which is to rehabilitate this pretty village in its center by making public buildings such as the town hall accessible. With a very big project at stake, that of bringing the tower of the church back up to standard!

€500,000 from the State pending!

Except that, for the moment, Saint-Michel, like all the other municipalities in , is unable to construct a budget since the State itself still does not have one. A situation which is far from facilitating the task of mayors and local elected officials already overwhelmed by their implications and responsibilities, particularly in small towns like Saint-Michel.

The municipality, whose file on plural space has been completed, is awaiting a state subsidy of some €500,000 (a straw!), without which it prudently refuses to undertake any work. Gaëligue Jos says she is worried about this situation which also prevents the town hall from calculating its own taxes which it does not want to see disappear.

Residents involved

The mayor and his deputies nevertheless presented the developments and investments made in the town. A very comprehensive overview which shows that without the voluntary involvement of elected officials and sometimes their spouses, members of associations and the goodwill of municipal agents, nothing would be possible like renovating hiking trails, setting up premises for associations in the old stadium locker room or even creating an intergenerational play area.

Associative life also shows that the inhabitants of Saint-Michel are working hard for their village since a new association has just been created, Paloma Festival, alongside the festival committee or even Saint-Michel Passion and others.

Without the work in good harmony between the town hall and the associations, none of the successes of last year would have been possible, such as the Nino Ferrer day, the Gilles Sachi exhibition or the music festival which were a hit . The Saint Michel library doubled the number of its members and its participation in reading night at the end of January, and its plans for seven other events prove the vitality of this village of barely more than 300 inhabitants, as do the ceremonies. delivery of the first voter card or ceremony dedicated to welcoming new residents.

This first wish ceremony ended around the traditional galette des rois.
