Permanent closure of two Cinémas Guzzo branches

“This extremely difficult decision is necessary to ensure the sustainability of our family business, following the challenges imposed by the global health crisis in recent years,” we explain in a press release.

The Saint-Jean branch had just been recently built. After several delays, the Méga-Plex Saint-Jean 12 was inaugurated in December 2021, offering 9 to 12 cinema rooms.

Remember that the Guzzo group is facing financial difficulties and had to close its branch located in Dollard-des-Ormeaux last November. The company even committed to protecting its 500 employees last December. This came after a Superior Court decision placed the company in liquidation and requested the sale of its assets to repay creditors. The Guzzo group, however, retained control of activities in its projection rooms.

The Guzzo group reiterates its desire to put in place measures to ensure its survival and to improve its services. “Although we have fought to preserve all jobs, certain measures have become inevitable,” we added in a press release.

Customers are invited to visit other nearby branches, including Méga-Plex Sphèretech 14, Méga-Plex Lacordaire 16 and Méga-Plex Taschereau 18. It is possible to find out the movie schedule in the remaining seven branches by line.

“For more than 50 years, Cinémas Guzzo has overcome many obstacles through innovation, resilience and determination. Today is no exception,” we concluded by thanking the customers, employees and partners affected by this restructuring.
