LThe CAN and the World Cup, which will take place in the country, can play a fundamental role in the integration of marginalized populations, particularly people with disabilities, and in the promotion of gender and generational equality. Hosting these major events represents much more than just a sporting showcase. They offer a unique platform to create positive and inclusive social dynamics.
“The impact of these competitions goes far beyond the economic aspect. By hosting such events, Morocco has the opportunity to stimulate inclusive growth by promoting participation of all social strata, particularly those historically marginalized. In this context, sport becomes a real catalyst for social inclusion, allowing everyone to come together, share common values and participate in events where diversity and equality are not only valued, but also experienced. on a daily basis,” explains Abderrafie Hamdi, researcher in human rights and public policies.
One of the key objectives of global sporting events is to promote inclusion through gender equality and the integration of people with disabilities. Morocco, by hosting the CAN and the World Cup, can put in place policies and concrete actions to encourage the active participation of women in sport, while providing an environment conducive to the engagement of young people, the elderly and individuals with disabilities. Gender equality is at the heart of contemporary challenges. Football, although long considered a male sport par excellence, is gradually becoming a vector of emancipation for women around the world.
On the occasion of these major sporting events, Morocco will be able to intensify its efforts to integrate more women into the world of football. And this, through women’s competitions, training and awareness programs, but also by offering increased visibility to local and international female athletes. Sport, as a space for performance and excellence, must become an area where men and women can evolve on an equal footing, and the CAN 2025 and the 2030 World Cup are the perfect opportunity to strengthen this dynamic.
Young people, actors of tomorrow
At the same time, the issue of inclusion of people with disabilities deserves particular attention. These sporting events represent a unique opportunity to change the perception of people with disabilities in Moroccan society. By raising awareness among the population and adapting sports infrastructure, Morocco can offer people with disabilities the opportunity to actively participate in competitions and fully experience the event.
To do this, it is essential that stadiums and other sports infrastructures are accessible to everyone, including people with specific needs. Physical accessibility, but also the adaptability of sports programs, will guarantee true inclusion, far from the social and physical barriers that can still isolate this population. Likewise, young people, actors of tomorrow, occupy a central place in this dynamic of social inclusion.
-“These sporting events can be a real school of life for them. Not only will they have the opportunity to experience the event as passionate spectators, but they will also be able to actively participate in its organization and management. As volunteers, organizers or creators of cultural initiatives, young people will be called upon to play a key role in welcoming spectators, promoting local culture and organizing events. This active role is all the more important as it allows young people to be fully involved in the life of their community, to promote their creativity.life and to strengthen their sense of belonging both locally and globally,” emphasizes Hamdi. Furthermore, the success of these events will inevitably require a participatory approach, which guarantees the involvement of the population at all stages, from preparation to implementation. “Doing for me without me is against me”: this fundamental principle must guide the organization of CAN 2025 and the 2030 World Cup.
“It is imperative to open a public debate, mobilize the media, include schools and appeal to the imagination and creativity of citizens to nourish these events with relevant proposals,” insists our interlocutor. According to him, the associative fabric, with more than 270,000 associations across the country, represents an essential actor in mobilizing the various local communities and ensuring the implementation of concrete initiatives.
Promoting diversity
These events cannot be separated from the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to achieve inclusive economic, social and environmental development by 2030. “Active participation, gender equality and the promotion of diversity are all objectives that Morocco can pursue through the organization of the CAN and the World Cup. Culture, in particular, will be at the heart of this dynamic. Through festivals, exhibitions and artistic initiatives, Morocco will be able to highlight the richness of its cultural heritage and that of Africa, while reinforcing the idea that sport is not just a competition, but also a powerful tool for social transformation,” says Hamdi.
The organization of the 2025 African Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup in Morocco is a unique opportunity to reposition sport as a vector of social cohesion and sustainable development. By actively involving all populations, in particular women, young people and people with disabilities, Morocco will be able to transform these sporting events into real levers for a more inclusive, egalitarian and united society.
