Since the opening of ChatGPT at the end of 2022 and as the world of Tech is launched into a rush towards generative AI, many points of view have been heard concerning the risks and potential progress brought by these innovations. The World Economic Forum (WEF), a foundation that brings together the great elites of global capitalism, has a strong opinion on this subject which is shared in a new study.
Some professions are threatened
Thus, the international organization looked at the future of employment in the context of these technological developments. The WEF therefore estimates that AI will replace 92 million jobs by the end of the decade, but, at the same time, 170 million jobs will be created. So the net creation will be 78 million jobs.
The authors of this report predict dark times for certain office professions, particularly secretaries, due to ongoing automation. On the other hand, professions linked to AI, big data, networks and cybersecurity are those which would experience the fastest growth.
Likewise, manual professions, such as farmers, laborers and truck drivers or even knowledge workers, software and application developers, are among the least exposed.
From a more general point of view, employers are looking for certain skills, such as analytical thinking, resilience, flexibility and agility, leadership, all very human qualities.
Quoted by our colleagues from TechRadarSaadia Zahidi, general director of the WEF, comments:
-As we enter 2025, the work landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Transformational advances, particularly in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), are reshaping industries and tasks across sectors.
The IMF sees things differently
As a reminder, opinions are very divergent on the subject of AI and its economic and social impact. For example, in January 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated in a study that AI will threaten highly qualified professions. In all, around 60% of jobs are likely to be impacted by these innovations, the international organization anticipates. You can read this prospect in more detail in our previous article here.
What to remember:
- The World Economic Forum released a report on the impact of AI on employment
- He believes that this technology will create more jobs than it will destroy.
- Some professions seem threatened by automation, while others will always be in high demand
