The Telus company is strengthening connectivity near Sept-Îles and along Route 138 thanks to the expansion of the wireless network. It also improves cellular coverage in eastern Minganie. Two new wireless sites have been added in Matamec and Baie-Johan-Beetz.

These additions of installations in the MRCs of Sept-Rivières and Minganie mark an important step in improving connectivity and security in the region, welcomes Telus. These two sites are part of a larger project comprising six sites in total targeting the Côte- region, carried out in collaboration with the CRTC and the government of Quebec.

With half of the project now completed, TELUS demonstrates its continued commitment to improving telecommunications infrastructure in remote regions of Quebec. “The activation of these two new cell sites marks a crucial step in our commitment to the communities of the North Shore,” underlines Regional Vice-President, Marketing at TELUS Nathalie Dionne.

Other cell sites to come

The company argues that by strengthening connectivity, it promotes regional economic development, bridging digital gaps. Telus is continuing its efforts with the upcoming installation of three additional sites in 2025 in Aguanish, Rivière-au-Tonnerre and Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan.

It has already commissioned a first site near Lac Daigle north of Sept-Îles earlier in 2024. Last spring, Telus announced a private investment of $6.6 million on the North Shore for the deployment and updating its networks.

“The commissioning of new cellular sites in the territory of the MRC of Sept-Rivières is excellent news for the citizens and businesses of our region, who must be able to count on reliable and efficient cellular coverage,” reacts the mayor of Sept. -Islands and prefect of Sept-Rivières Denis Miousse.

“The expansion of the wireless network in the MRC of Minganie, with the new site in Baie-Johan-Beetz and the sites planned for Aguanish, Rivière-au-Tonnerre and Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan, is a significant step forward for our territory, adds the elected prefect of the MRC of Minganie Meggie Richard. The improved coverage along Route 138 will significantly improve road safety.

“These investments are much more than just technological improvements; they will make it possible to reduce the rural exodus, encourage teleworking, potentially improve access to remote health services while supporting our growing tourism industry,” notes Télus.
