: Rabat hosts the Hassan II Trophy and the Lalla Meryem Cup from February 3 to 8

The 49th edition of the Hassan II Trophy and the 28th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup will be held from February 3 to 8, 2025 at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.

The simultaneous running of these two competitions organized by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association on the same site perpetuates the tradition of diversity established in 1993 by the late HM King Hassan II, illustrious founder of the two tournaments, indicates a press release from the FRMG.

The Hassan II Trophy, which takes place on the legendary Parcours Rouge, is, for the third year, an essential stage of the PGA Tour Champions, specifies the same source, adding that 66 legends of world golf, including Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie, Tom Lehman and Jose Maria Olazabal are preparing to deliver a high-level sporting spectacle and write a new page in the history of the tournament under the theme of the Return of the Champions.

In 2024, continues the same source, the competition had experienced an intense fight for the top step of the podium. The Argentinian Ricardo Gonzalez won, displaying mastery throughout the tournament. Thomas Bjørn (Denmark) finished second with a score of -9, closely followed by Mark Hensby (Australia) in third place with a score of -7.

Furthermore, the Lalla Meryem Cup, played on the Blue Course, will once again bring together the women’s golf elite and will be the first stop on the annual calendar of the Ladies European Tour (LET).

Among the 108 competitors, Morocco will be represented by 5 players, including Ines Laklalech, Maha Haddioui, and the reigning African Amateur champion, Sofia Cherif Essakali.

In 2024, the British Bronte Law dominated the debates with a total of -13, followed by the French Pauline Roussin Bouchard (-10) and the Spanish Fatima Fernandez Cano (-9).

Ines Laklalech had signed the best performance ever recorded by a Moroccan player, finishing in tied 7th place with a score of -6.

The young Sofia Cherif Essakali, at only 14 years old, also shone by making the cut for the second year in a row.

At the same time, on the Green Course, the “Pro-Am Hassan II Kids Cup by First Tee” will feature 18 young budding Moroccan golfers in a fun and educational competition alongside professionals from the PGA Tour Champions and the LET.

Organized each year by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the Hassan II Trophy Association, this event embodies a real showcase for Morocco internationally, the press release concludes.
