Unwanted in , Portuguese winger Jota has a new base

Arriving this summer from Saudi Arabia, Portuguese winger Jota failed to establish himself in the ranks of Stade Rennais.

Jota should not stay at Stade Rennais for the long term. Arriving in this summer, after a mixed experience in Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese winger is encountering significant difficulties establishing himself within the French club. So much so that only six months after his transfer from Al-Ittihad, the Lisbon native is already on his way out.

A complicated first part of the season

Like his team, Jota is currently in difficulty. In a team that is struggling to meet the expectations placed on it, the former Portuguese U21 international has still not managed to make a contribution. On the contrary, the Portuguese experienced an almost anecdotal passage in Brittany, while he played a series of meetings on the bench. Since the start of the season, the player trained at Benfica has only started three small matches as a starter, and has only scored one goal.

A disappointing performance for this 25-year-old winger, considered one of the greatest hopes in his position during his younger years. Far from expectations, Jota could experience a new turn this winter, with a loan to a European club.

A way out for Jota?

Faced with the difficulties presented by the player since his arrival, Stade Rennais would already be ready to part ways with the latter. Indeed, the Breton club could agree to sell its 25-year-old player in the event of an interesting offer, for the one who cost no less than 8 million euros during last summer.

According to the Portuguese media MaisFutebol, Jota would have a new base for this winter transfer window. Indeed, the Olympiakos club recently opened negotiations with Stade Rennais with a view to enlisting him in the form of a loan. Thus, Jota would be part of a shortlist, which would include Sporting winger Marcus Edwards.

In Piraeus, Jota would not plunge completely into the unknown. For good reason, Olympiakos has a certain number of Portuguese players, like Gelson Martins, Sergio Oliveira, Chiquinho and Costinha. If he were to sign up for Olympiakos, the Portuguese winger would also find a certain David Carmo, with whom he won the European Under-19 Championship in 2018. A competition that Jota therefore had won by finishing as best player and co-top scorer, at a time when he was still considered one of the future headliners of Portuguese football.
