It is not possible to take out a subscription on the official e-Vignette.ch purchasing site of the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (OFDF). Some online retailers, who sell electronic stickers for an additional fee, offer this service, but for more than 40 francs. According to the OFDF, the absence of a subscription for the sticker is a deliberate choice aimed at facilitating its purchase. This is done in a few clicks, with a minimum of options available, which limits the risk of errors.
It is possible to obtain proof of purchase: entering the email address in the second step of the purchase process allows the receipt to be sent electronically. But in the event of an inspection, there is no need for proof. Indeed, given that such proof of purchase could be falsified, the police rely solely on the Confederation’s database during an inspection.
It is possible to check whether an electronic vignette has already been purchased for a car by entering the registration plate on the main page of the purchasing portal. To do this, the “Visible to the public” option must have been activated during the purchase, which can also be done later. Data protection requires explicit consent. It is recommended, otherwise only the police are able to verify the existence of an electronic sticker, so neither the garage nor family members will be able to do so. You will find more information on the electronic vignette in the OFDF FAQ.
