Bonpoint is now Chinese. The famous brand of luxury children’s clothing, which until then belonged to the investment company EPI, has been sold to the Chinese family group Youngor, reports Le Figaro. This conglomerate would have put 200 million euros on the table to offer the brand born in in the mid-1970s, well known in particular for its smocked dresses and other blouses in Liberty fabric.

A story born on Rue de l’Université

The story began on rue de l’Université, in the 7th arrondissement of the capital. Bernard Cohen then helped his wife and sister-in-law open Bonbon, a small boutique, in which they sold children’s clothes that they designed. Across the street, Point, the architect brother-in-law’s furniture store, is thriving. The two couples decide to focus everything on children’s clothing to create Bonpoint.

It’s a real success. Boutiques opened all over the world, notably in New York in 1988, on the very chic Madison Avenue. In 2006, Bonpoint opened a store designed like a house, in a magnificent 18th century mansion on rue de Tournon.

130 stores worldwide

The following year, the brand was sold to the French group Européenne de participations nationaux (EPI), also owner of JM Weston, Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck. Today, Bonpoint has 130 own stores around the world and has a turnover of 150 million euros, almost half of which is in Asia, according to Le Figaro.

“For fifty years, Bonpoint has been able to promote excellence and embody French savoir-vivre,” says a Youngor spokesperson. We will put our expertise at its disposal, and in particular our detailed knowledge of the Asian market, to continue this dynamic,” comments a Youngor spokesperson to our colleagues.
