Taxes: the key dates of the 2025 tax calendar to know: News

The government has revealed the dates of the fiscal calendar for the year 2025 to know so as not to be taken by surprise by all the deadlines.

On the Public Finance website, the government has published the fiscal calendar for the fiscal year, namely the tax declaration date or the property tax for example. Even if the country does not have a budget, a “special law” still allows the government to continue to collect taxes, with specific deadlines.

From January 15, there will be the first deduction for taxpayers who have opted for the monthly payment of certain taxes, such as property or housing taxes. The same will be done every 15th of the month. There will also be a monthly deposit payment “for withholding tax on income without collectors”which mainly concerns “the income of the self-employed or farmers, land income, or alimony”.

Like every year, in the spring, the income tax return must be completed by French workers. If the exact dates are not known, it is likely that this will take place in April. Initially, it will be for paper forms, reserved for people who do not have access to the internet or have difficulty with electronic tools, then online declarations. Depending on the method of declaration and place of residence, the deadline will be: mid-May for paper declarations, then departments 01 to 19 and non-residents one week later, departments 20 to 54 the following week, and another week for departments 55 to 974/976.

Property tax and housing tax at the end of the year

Before July 1, property owners will have to specify if there is a change in the occupancy situation of a property (change of tenant, unoccupied property, etc.). At the end of the summer holidays, from September, with the income tax return completed in the spring, the tax authorities will recalculate the new withholding tax rate. Also, taxpayers who have not paid enough income tax in 2024 will have to pay the balance before September 15 if they do not pay online, otherwise by September 25. If more than 300 euros are to be paid, the amount will be divided into four installments between September and December.

Owners will have until October 15 to pay their property tax if they do not use the online service, five more days for those who pay online. Taxpayers affected by the real estate wealth tax will have until November 17 to pay it, or until the 22nd, if done online. Finally, in December, the deadline for payment of the housing tax is set for the 15th, or the 20th, for collection on the 29th.
