This is what the new facelifted Tesla Model Y looks like

Electric car news

The first images without camouflage of the restyled Tesla Model Y, codenamed “Juniper”, have just been captured in China during winter testing. This major aesthetic overhaul marks a significant evolution for the world’s best-selling electric SUV.

A modernized design inspired by the Cybertruck

The front of the vehicle adopts a unique lighting signature with a barre LED continue crossing the entire front, recalling the spirit of the Cybertruck. This development marks a break with the current design and its conventional headlights. The grille abandons its criticized “duckbill” appearance for a more refined and aerodynamic front. At the rear, the Californian manufacturer opts for “TESLA” lettering in full, abandoning its emblematic logo.

Substantial technical improvements

The Model Y Juniper should inherit the technical advances introduced on the Model 3 Highland:

  • Reinforced sound insulation for a quieter interior
  • Optimized energy efficiency thanks to better aerodynamics
  • New electronic architecture for increased performance
  • Removal of steering wheel controls in favor of touch controls

Imminent production and marketing

Mass production should begin this month in the Shanghai factory, after a pre-production phase beginning at the end of 2023. This timing corresponds to the numerous leaks appearing in recent months on Chinese social networks. The manufacturer has not yet officially communicated on prices, but a slight increase compared to the current version is possible given the improvements made.

A redesigned interior for greater comfort

The interior benefits from a significant overhaul with more premium materials and optimized soundproofing. Ergonomics have evolved with a new central screen and a refined dashboard. Rear passengers benefit from a increased legroom thanks to a new design of the front seats.

Performance and autonomy

The technical specifications should evolve with:

Version Power 0-100 km/h Autonomy (WLTP)
Propulsion 299 ch 6.9s 455 km
Performance 513 ch 3.7s 514 km

This major update to the Model Y comes at the right time in the face of increasingly fierce competition in the premium electric SUV segment. The improvements made should allow the model to consolidate its position as market leader, in particular thanks to its modernized design and optimized performance.
