[DIGITAL Business Africa] – Airtel Gabon, first authorized fixed operator. It is a historical fact. The president of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (Arcep), Célestin Kadjidja and the general director of Airtel Gabon, Thomas Herbert Gutjahr, signed a related agreement this Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

In the specifications given to Airtel Gabon, it is mentioned that the operator enjoys the rights and obligations for the installation and deployment of an FTTH fiber optic network. Airtel Gabon, according to Célestin Kadjidja, president of Arcep, will have to respect strict operating conditions in order to guarantee high-speed connectivity, essential in the era of Big Data and artificial intelligence.

The CEO of Airtel Gabon, Thomas Herbert Gutjahr, is delighted with this agreement which will allow the company to better deploy its policy on the ground. And to compete with its competitors.

“With this license, we are intensifying our commitment to bridging the digital divide. We can now provide fiber optic internet, which was previously beyond our reach. This will benefit individuals and businesses and help boost the Gabonese digital economy. We were excluded from this market, but today we are able to compete with other operators”he said.

The agreement brings to the Gabonese:

1- High-speed internet via optical fiber: Offering businesses and individuals reliable, high-performance connectivity at competitive prices.

-

2. Connectivity for the most remote areas: Deployment of technological innovations to connect remote and hitherto isolated localities, with the aim of ensuring true digital inclusion throughout the territory.

3. Data transport by microwave: Provision of tailor-made connectivity solutions for any economic operator, thus stimulating collaboration and competitiveness.

Airtel Gabon thus joins Move Africa Gabon Télécom and GVA Canal+, already active in the optical fiber market.
