Head of the European Interconnections and Networks department within the Energy Regulatory Commission, Benoit Esnault has been reappointed as president of the electricity working group of MedReg, the association of Mediterranean energy regulators, during the general meeting held on December 4 in Brussels. He is accompanied by two vice-presidents, Salma Osman of the Egyptian regulator EgyptERA and Yahya Mrabti of ANRE – National Electricity Regulatory Authority of Morocco.
The electricity working group structures cooperation between Mediterranean regulators within MedReg around issues of integration of electricity systems, convergence of regulatory frameworks to facilitate electricity exchanges and questions relating to investments. Benoit Esnault and the working group will reflect on numerous challenges facing MedReg members: integration of renewable energies, security of supply and development of interconnections between Europe and the countries of the South and the east of the Mediterranean.
The CRE attaches great importance to cooperation between Mediterranean regulators in order to build a common, stable and harmonized framework favoring investments, consumer protection and the integration of renewable energies. She is delighted with the trust and recognition of her commitment through the reappointment of Benoit Esnault as president of the MedReg electricity working group.
