OpenAI boss Sam Altman disputes his sister’s accusations of sexual assault against him

Sam Altman, the boss of the artificial intelligence giant OpenAI, published a message on Tuesday January 7 to refute accusations from his sister Annie Altman, who has just filed a complaint against him accusing him of sexual assault during his childhood.

“Annie has made completely false and hurtful statements about our family, especially Sam.”states a letter published on the X network and co-signed by Sam Altman, his mother and his two brothers, who add: “The worst accusation she has made is that she was sexually abused by Sam when she was a child.”

According to the complaint filed Monday, January 6 by Annie Altman, nine years Sam Altman’s junior, the attacks took place from 1997, when she was 3 years old, and until 2006. “In this complaint, his charges now include allegations of incidents that occurred when Sam was over the age of 18”write the signatories of the letter, who maintain that “All these allegations are completely false”.

Annie Altman’s family writes that “his assertions have evolved considerably over time”. The letter states that the young woman “accused our family members of wrongfully withholding funds from our father’s retirement savings [mort en 2018]from pirate are wifi, from the [bannir à son insu] of several websites like ChatGPT, Twitter and others.”

The letter also claims that Annie Altman is “faced with mental health problems” and his family “is very concerned about his well-being”. The Altman family claims to have tried to help him financially. “Despite this, Annie continues to ask us for more money”say the signatories of the letter, specifying that they decided to respond publicly, after years of tension, because of the complaint filed Monday by their loved one.

Sam Altman gained global fame in 2023 with the success of ChatGPT, the text generative AI launched by OpenAI and which popularized artificial intelligence applications. In a report from New York Magazine in 2023, the journalist, who had met Annie Altman in Hawaii, describes her as an artist suffering from depression and a growing gap with her family, and supporting herself in particular through online prostitution. At the end of 2023, on her blog, the young woman explained that she was subject to post-traumatic stress syndrome and had cut ties with those close to her. “I have lived under the authority of my brother all my life, she wrote. The narrative that ‘Annie is crazy’ and ‘Annie can’t take care of herself’ is the one I was raised and conditioned into.”
