In fact, from January, the tax authorities resume their usual rhythm. Those who opted for monthly payment of property tax or housing tax will see their first sample of the year. It’s happening faster than expected, so it’s better to plan ahead!

What you need to know depending on your situation

Were you already making monthly payments last year? You have probably spotted the amount of monthly deductions on your 2024 local tax notice, in the section “notice of due dates 2025”. No change for you, then!

On the other hand, if this is your first year of monthly payments, a small but important detail deserves your attention. If you opted for monthly payment before December 15, your first collection will take place on January 15, 2025.

But be careful, by joining between December 15 and 31the first direct debit concerning you will not take place until February. It will come with a catch-up for the January deadline.

In other words, your February withdrawal may be larger than usual. To be sure, check with your personal space on the tax website, Impots.gouv. So, prepare accordingly to avoid any unpleasant surprises on your bank account!

Monthly withdrawals: instructions for use

The monthly direct debit works on a simple basis. This is actually a payment split over 10 deadlines, from January to October. Each monthly payment represents one tenth of the tax due for the previous year, as explained by the tax administration. This system makes payments easier over the year, for more peaceful management of your budget.

However, if the tax for 2025 turns out to be higher than that of 2024, don't be surprised. For what ? An 11th collection will take place in Novemberin order to make up the difference.

And if you have not yet chosen the monthly payment, know that there is still time to join for this year. You have until June 30 to make your request. Once joined, the monthly withdrawal will begin the following month.

Catching up on uncollected payments

For payments not collected since January, the tax authorities smooth the catch-up on the first three monthly payments. This ensures that the amount to be paid is not increased too quickly.

To avoid a large payment at the end of the year and choose the monthly payment, nothing could be simpler. Go to your particular space on the tax site, in the section “Payments”.

Then, click on “Subscribe to the monthly direct debit for the collection of my taxes”. A quick process that can really make it easier for you to manage your finances!
