Since the end of exceptional subsidies to the road transport sector last May, taxi professionals have been demanding an increase in prices, citing the need to compensate for their losses.
According to Hespressunions in the sector denounce a “ineffective government policy” and consider the recent reductions in fuel prices insufficient to ease their financial burden.
According to the national taxi coordination, current fuel prices, although slightly decreasing, do not allow drivers to generate sufficient profits to maintain their activity.
This situation should be at the heart of discussions during a national meeting scheduled for next Sunday, where professionals will debate possible solutions, including increasing prices. Once validated, this proposal will be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior.
This request meets strong opposition from consumer defense associations, who believe that the drop in fuel prices, from 16 to 11 dirhams per liter, invalidates any justification for an increase in prices. According to them, current price levels do not compromise the profitability of taxi drivers, and an increase would be unjustified for users.
