In a press release issued Sunday, Unifor indicates that the new collective agreement is valid for four years, but does not specify how many members voted in favor of the agreement.

A month ago, workers voted in favor of a walkout on New Year's Day in order to obtain better job security, better pay and better working conditions.

The press release highlights that the new contract provides for improved salaries, benefits and job protection.

“This agreement secures significant gains that reflect the essential contributions of Unifor members to CN's business. We are proud to make improvements to pension security, work ownership and working conditions, which were key demands from members,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President.

The agreement affects a host of technical and administrative employees, including mechanics, machinists, crane operators, electricians and customer support staff.
