The former boss of the Schneider group died on Thursday December 19, his family announced. He was 93 years old.
An emblematic figure of French industry. As reported The ParisianSunday December 22, Didier Pineau-Valencienne died at the age of 93. He died last Thursday, his family said. The former business manager, originally from Vendée, notably remained at the head of the Schneider Electric group for almost twenty years, during the 80s and 90s.
The captain of industry has profoundly transformed this company, specializing in energy. However, he did not succeed in saving Creusot-Loire from liquidation in 1984. Didier Pineau-Valencienne “will have contributed to making France shine in the world and to maintaining its rank as an industrial power”, reacted in a press release Alain Leboeuf, president of the Vendée departmental council.
Literature fan
In the 1990s, in Belgium, the company boss was charged with forgery and fraud in connection with the management of two Belgian subsidiaries; he was imprisoned for several days. Found guilty years later, he was however not sentenced because of the antiquity of the facts.
This former student of the HEC Paris school was passionate about literature. He began his career at Gallimard, where he notably crossed paths with a certain Albert Camus. “Since childhood, books have marked my life, from the stories or novels that my mother read to me to the great French and foreign authors that I discovered later.”, told “DPV” in an interview with Figaro in 2020.
