Opened in July 2024, Wukong The Grand Master has since made its mark between Place de la République and the Canal Saint-Martin. Customers are not mistaken since this Thursday evening of testing, few tables seem still available, proof of the (very) good reputation that the restaurant is establishing, which delights with excellent cuisine from China and with a unique decor.
A unique atmosphere
A visit to the establishment of Laurence, Alpha and Tom is essential for the contents of the plates (we will come back to that) but not only that. The atmosphere alone is worth the detour. There's no mistake when you arrive in front of the Chinese-kitsch storefront. We then enter a place inspired by China in the 80s, the melancholy romanticism of In the Mood for Love and the explosive intrigues of John Woo's films.
The paper on the walls, the lanterns, the candles, everything is there to create a unique climate… right down to the old TV which broadcasts old series or the magnificently kitschy toilets.
It works with a special mention for the pleasant soundtrack.
Glamorous atmosphere and excellent dim sum
Well placed in front of the magnificent bar, with a view of the kitchens, the serious things can begin. If we come to Wukong The Grand Master it's for dim sum in the purest Chinese tradition. Fried spring rolls with shrimp wontons, grilled chicken Xiao Long Bao, grilled pork or vegetable Jiao Zi…The journey can begin.
As far as we are concerned, it will go through the Discovery formula, an excellent choice at 50 euros for two people, more than enough in terms of quantity and which allows you to discover a maximum of dishes with various flavors.
What's better to accompany these dishes than a cocktail, the other strong point of the house? We happily tested “In the mood for love” which revisits the spritz with Meijian plum liqueur, longan, Meiguilu rose brandy and Prosecco. We also let ourselves be tempted by the “Red Empire” (baijiu, triple sec kumquat, lime, soy sauce).
We finish with a steamed Bao with matcha, white chocolate, and raspberry.
In this glamorous atmosphere, all the ingredients come together for an excellent evening. On weekend evenings, a resident DJ takes the decks, the address then becomes more of a night bar and boudoir.
Wukong The Grand Master – 32 rue Beaurepaire 75010 Paris. Open Monday to Thursday 6 p.m. to midnight / Friday and Saturday 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. / Closed Sunday
