In the agglomeration of Caen (Calvados), a small upheaval occurred in 2024 in the mass distribution sector. A fourth hypermarket began flying the Carrefour flag during the summer, before the signs, products and all other visual elements are definitively implemented in mid-November. After 29 years of activity, Cora then disappeared following the takeover of this national brand of 60 hypermarkets by the Carrefour group.
“They pulled out all the stops” in Rots
During the inauguration of the fourth Carrefour hypermarket in the Caen agglomeration (after those of Caen Côte de Nacre, Hérouville Saint-Clair and Mondeville 2), on November 19, 2024, the mayor of Rots, Michel Bourguignon, particularly appreciated the moment. “They pulled out all the stops,” he rejoiced, wanting to see it as an obvious sign of dynamism for the coming months.
“Even if the Competition Authority must make its validation final at the end of its examination, I have the firm conviction that Carrefour will not let go of the Cora point of sale. »
A desire for new projects
In his speech, the mayor wanted to salute the almost three decades of life with Cora who have “brought a lot to the town, as well as to the local producers. » He also hopes that commercial links with the local fabric will be maintained over time. For now, they have been preserved. The management of the hypermarket has been retained and wishes to work in continuity.
The mayor of the town also hopes that this arrival will relaunch new projects: a ligne Twisto Flex to the shopping center, a cycle path along the flag route, and why not a commercial extension. “At the service station, a large area of green space has always been planned for this purpose. » Case to be continued.
