Thai Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said on December 18 that the country was negotiating free trade agreements (FTAs) with the European Union, the Republic of Korea and several other countries which, if they succeed, will further boost Thai exports, adding that Thailand aims to become the production base for modern industries, such as printed circuit boards.

He admitted, however, that future changes in US trade policy posed a new challenge, noting that a Thai delegation would visit the United States immediately after the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump to explain that much of the Thai exports to the US market are manufactured by US companies based in Thailand. Pichai Naripthaphan said he believed Thailand would not face higher tariffs.

Poj Aramwattananont, first vice president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said he was confident about the outlook for Thai exports next year, but remained concerned about the unpredictability of U.S. trade policies under a Donald administration. Trump.
