L’Urban Cruiser stands out with a design that is both robust and sophisticated, perfectly calibrated to appeal to lovers of compact SUVs. On the aesthetic theme “Urban Tech”, this model embodies the visual evolution of Toyota. Its front face, marked by an imposing grille and double-stage LED headlights, is organized around a “hammer head” pattern. This style provides a strong and recognizable identity, while optimizing air flow management for better aerodynamic efficiency.
Its dimensions, equivalent to 4.28 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, and 1.64 meters high, offer ideal compactness for the city, while preserving optimized interior space. Ground clearance, although not precisely specified, seems designed to combine on-road comfort and off-road capabilities, ideal for light off-road escapades.
The rear section does not go unnoticed with horizontal LED lights that stretch across the entire width of the vehicle, accentuating the feeling of width and stability. The design is completed by a detailed bumper and chrome details (depending on the version) which give it a high-end look. The alloy wheels, available in 18 or 19 inches, reinforce its dynamic character and offer customization options. Toyota adds to this versatility a range of two-tone exterior colors, with a contrasting black roof which enhances the silhouette. This offer plays on a contemporary urban aesthetic, while meeting the expectations of drivers wishing to stand out.
Every styling element of the SUV is designed with practicality in mind. For example, the plastic guards around the wheel arches not only add an off-road touch to the design, but also protect the bodywork from splashes. The rear hatch incorporates a low loading sill to facilitate access to the trunk, an essential feature for everyday use.
Interior: space and modularity
Despite its compactness, theUrban Cruiser is distinguished by a spacious interior thanks to a wheelbase of 2.70 meters, greater than that of the Yaris Cross. Modularity is reinforced by a sliding and folding rear seat (40:20:40), offering a balance between passenger space and trunk volume. This configuration makes it possible to comfortably accommodate passengers or transport bulky objects.
The horizontal dashboard and clean surfaces create an open ambience. The upholstery mixes black and dark gray tones, and the customizable ambient lighting offers 12 different colors to adapt to the desires of the occupants.
The Urban Cruiser incorporates the latest advances in active safety and driving assistance. Among the equipment offered, we find a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, as well as lane keeping assistance. A 360° camera system makes maneuvering in urban environments or difficult terrain easier.
On the multimedia side, the SUV is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.1-inch central touch screen. Connected navigation and compatibility with smartphones complete the offer. Higher versions benefit from features such as a JBL audio system or a fixed sunroof.
Engines: choice and versatility
The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be offered with two battery capacities (49 kilowatt hours – kWh and 61 kWh) and two types of transmission: front or all-wheel drive. The two-wheel drive version offers power ranging from 144 hp (49 kWh battery) to 174 hp (61 kWh battery). The all-wheel drive version, equipped with an additional motor on the rear axle, reaches a power of 184 hp.
This AWD configuration incorporates a Trail mode and downhill assistance, optimizing performance in difficult conditions. A heat pump for heating and manual battery preheating ensure increased efficiency, even in winter.
The Urban Cruiser joins an expanding range which will include 15 zero-emission models by 2026. This compact SUV illustrates the brand’s ambition: to offer a diversified offering to meet the expectations of a rapidly changing European market. The Urban Cruiser’s public debut will take place at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2025, marking the launch of a strategic model for Toyota.
