The man who had become the face of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal for 16 years, Michel Leblanc, announced this Wednesday that he will leave his position as president and CEO as of spring 2025.

“Since my arrival in January 2009, we have accomplished great things which have contributed to relaunching the metropolis and I am very proud of it,” wrote Mr. Leblanc in a letter sent to the media. It is with emotion, but above all with the feeling of duty accomplished, that I announced today my decision to leave my functions. »
Mr. Leblanc explains that he made this decision “after a long reflection”. He gave no indication of future employment. His possible candidacy for mayor of Montreal is regularly mentioned, and he did not close this door when he was questioned by The Press on this subject last June.
“A lot of business people […] ask me if I’m going to run for town hall, he declared. I tell them that I’m thinking about it, just as I could also get involved in provincial or federal politics. There are big challenges. After 15 years, it’s normal to take a moment to reflect. I will make a decision in the next year. »
The board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal set up a selection committee, supported by a specialized firm, to find a replacement for Mr. Leblanc. “I offered my full collaboration to ensure a smooth transition,” he wrote.
“Under his leadership, the Chamber led numerous initiatives that shaped the economic landscape of the metropolis. Whether with I see mtl, the International Leaders series, Let’s Relaunch MTL or I like working downtown, Michel’s vision has made it possible to place the Chamber at the heart of all major issues. He leaves behind a leading, solid and influential organization,” President Philippe Johnson said in a press release.
