The big test of brands in party mode: the best red wine tested costs just over €7! (COMPARATIVE)

The big test of brands in party mode: for foie gras, the big brand is not the best (COMPARATIVE)

Aspect du packaging : Overall, all the labels were pretty nice, with different styles. We fell in love with the rather original label of the Minervois offered by Colruyt. At Lidl, the grave had a label that could not be more traditional, but which can reassure buyers. For Intermarché, we were in something typical Italian, with a Sicilian nero d’avola Vezzani. For Carrefour (Côtes-du-Rhône – Hommage au Rhône) and Delhaize (Fleurie La Madone), we were on something very refined. It was also quite original at Aldi, with a Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, from Saint Gervais.

Product appearance: the Côtes-du-Rhône from Carrefour was very light in color, with a fruity nose, but a little light. The Lidl bass had a very elegant ruby color, but the nose was much too light. For the Minervois from Colruyt, however, the nose was more engaged, perhaps a little too powerful for some. But there was some complexity. At Aldi, it was much too light-hearted, the same for Intermarché and Delhaize.

The big test of brands in end-of-year holiday mode: the best red wines for less than €10 per bottle (2023 version)

Nutritional value: Let’s keep it short: drinking alcohol is not good for your health. But we don’t refuse a good little drink from time to time.

Label readability: at Carrefour, there was very little information, not even a reference to the grape variety. At Lidl, there was no indication in French on this bottle of , but rather Hungarian or Bulgarian! It was much better at Colruyt, with lots of information, right down to the exact harvest date. At Aldi, we had some information about the house, the mouth and the nose, not bad. Delhaize was also a very good student with information on the blends to make, the grape varieties, etc. For Intermarché, it was written only in Italian and English, but we can’t blame the producer.

Taste : we start with the Côtes-du-Rhône from Carrefour. We found all the characteristics of the appellation, without the wine being too strong. It was quite fruity, but the vine deserves to age a little. At Lidl, we liked this bass which doesn’t look like much, but which will please as many people as possible, even if it lacked length. We really liked the Minervois from Colruyt, with notes of violet and red fruit, in particular. At that price, it’s a very nice surprise. At Aldi, it wasn’t bad, but standard, in the bad sense of the word. It was even blander at Intermarché – but with a superb dress – and Delhaize.

The big brand test: the best red wine at €8 max to accompany your party menu (2022 version)
