Tested a few weeks ago by the Caradisiac editorial team, the new Ford Capri takes the form of a large family electric SUV and no longer has anything to do with the popular little coupe from which it takes its name.
Conversely, this new Ford Escort RS MK1 designed by the English from Boreham Motorworks plays entirely on the direct connection with the old model of the same name. Built with Ford’s blessing, it is based on the two-door version of the first Escort RS manufactured until 1975 by Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations in Essex, in its RS 2000 version.
But with a brand new chassis built respecting the original plans, a greatly improved and modernized suspension and above all, much faster mechanics.
A prepared “Twin Cam” or an engine that takes 10,000 rpm!
Customers will have to choose between a profoundly improved version of the small four-cylinder “Twin Cam” of the original model (pushed to 1,845 cc instead of 1,558 cc and 182 bhp instead of 109) and an original four-cylinder of current design of 296 bph horsepower (or 300 DIN horsepower), cubing 2.1 liters and breaking at…10,000 rpm!
No ABS and a crazy price
Subtly configured and enlarged, this modern Escort RS “MK1” ignores all current assistance systems (no traction control, no ABS, not even a brake servo!) and weighs only 800 kilos in its version equipped with the small Twin Cam.
Equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox in “dog leg” configuration (first gear at the bottom left), it aims for “old-fashioned” driving purity and will be limited to 150 examples. The only problem is that they will cost £295,000 or over €354,000. Yes, that’s more than for a McLaren 750S with 750 horsepower or a Ferrari 296 GTB with 830 horsepower…
