Schwalbe G-One RX Pro: a gravel tire for riding fast in winter ⋆ Vojo

Want to continue riding gravel despite the wet and slippery conditions of winter? With the G-One RX Pro, Schwalbe comes at the right time. The German brand completes its “gravel performance” range with this new tire designed for difficult conditions and technical trails. Presentation :

The Schwalbe gravel range is vast and it is not always easy to find your way around. Nevertheless, the brand is starting to put a little order into its different models and the arrival of this new G-One Pro RX should make it possible to have two coherent offers.

Gravel, at Schwalbe, is the G-One family. However, there are no fewer than 13 tire models under this name! To make it easier to navigate, Schwalbe has created sub-families and established a distinction: from now on, the G-One tires will be those intended for adventure and leisure gravel while the G-One Pro will be the performance-oriented models.

This new G-One RX Pro therefore joins the G-One Pro family in order to cover all terrains: very rolling with the G-One RS (a semi-slick), versatile with the G-One R, and difficult conditions (which whether mud or rolling stones) with the G-One RX Pro.

To design it, Schwalbe was inspired by the cyclocross X-One R and the G-One R. On the sides, we find the crampons of the first, with a longitudinal/transverse alternation which should offer both stability in slope and grip while in the center, it is the “boomerangs” of the second which have been used for their good balance between performance and grip both when braking and when pedaling.

The tread is quite marked but in the transition zones, there are large empty spaces to help clear the dirt on oily soils. However, if the studs are spaced further apart than on a G-One R, the profile of the tire still indicates its performance orientation and we know of more aggressive gravel tires.

On the construction side, Schwalbe took advantage of the new organization of the range to review the tires and carcasses of the entire G-One Pro family. The Super Race carcass becomes Race Pro with better protection against punctures (25 mm wide strip of V-Guard fabric under the tread compared to 20 mm previously and carcass ply which rises higher on the sides) while “ improving rolling characteristics,” indicates the brand, while the Addix Race rubber has been revised and must notably be faster on the tread, while keeping a softer compound on the sides for grip.

Furthermore, these tires will now be available in “beige” sidewalls. (transparent in the Schwalbe nomenclature), that is to say of natural color, or with black sidewalls, therefore with carbon black in the rubber which covers them. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, the presence or absence of carbon black in the rubber on the sidewalls has a slight impact on the behavior of the tire: these particles tend to slightly stiffen the sidewalls and provide them with better resistance to punctures. .

The Schwalbe G-One RX Pro is available in 3 sizes: 40 mm, 45 mm and 50 mm. Previously limited to 45mm, the G-One R Pro and G-One RS Pro will also be available in 50mm in the future. The price is the same for all models in the family: €74.90 regardless of the size or color of the side.
