The Chinese BYD already sells more cars than Ford in the world!

The “great replacement” of European cars by Chinese models on our market has not yet taken place, even if MG now has good market shares here. But BYD, which remains fairly confidential for the moment on the Old Continent, is progressing at high speed in the rest of the world and in particular in China where its sales continue to climb.

As a result, Byd already finds itself in a position to move from large, historically pioneering groups to the global sales register. As reported by Nikkei Asia reporters, BYD sold 1.13 million cars globally from July to September 2024, an increase of 38% compared to the same period last year. It is 40,000 more cars than Fordexceeded for the first time. The American giant remains in the lead for the moment over the first nine months of the year with 3.3 million cars sold compared to 3.25 for BYD but given the current trend, the Chinese group could move ahead on the the whole of 2024.

Stellantis is just ahead

Stellantis, whose global sales fell by 20% in the third quarter of 2024, remained ahead of BYD for only 10,000 units sold over this period with 1.14 million cars sold. The entity resulting from the merger between PSA and FCA, in the midst of a crisis, could also fall behind BYD in global sales in the short term.

BYD thus found itself in sixth place among the world’s largest automobile groups in the third quarter of 2024 and could soon become fifth behind Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai Motor Group and General Motors. The new global automobile giant is progressing quickly…
