Cremo is implementing a new savings measure as part of its CAP 2027 transformation plan. The Friborg dairy group will cease the production, refining and marketing of Emmental AOP. No layoffs are planned.

(Keystone-ATS) “The measure will be effective at the end of April 2025 to meet the deadlines of our contractual commitments,” Alex Segovia, Cremo communications manager, told Keystone-ATS on Tuesday, confirming an article published in La Liberté. In total, six employees are affected by the abandonment of the activity.
Cremo produces Emmental AOP in a cheese factory rented since 2003 in Kriechenwil, a village located near Laupen (BE), specifies the Friborg daily. The wheels are then transferred to Guin (FR) to be refined and packaged on the site of the Von Mühlenen company, in the hands of Cremo since 2006.
No layoffs
The Villars-sur-Glâne company justifies the shutdown by the desire to make savings, while the Emmental AOP is also going through a crisis. In 2023, sales of cheese with holes, which is not protected as a trademark in the European Union (EU), fell by almost 3% in Switzerland and by more than 10% for export.
Furthermore, no dismissals will be made. “The staff concerned will be offered a position on our Guin or Villars-sur-Glâne sites, depending on their wishes, their skills and our needs,” said Alex Segovia. The human resources department has already met with the employees.
