this is what its dreaded future electric car looks like

For several weeks, Jaguar has been at the heart of a media frenzy following a publication announcing the brand's revival. A renewal that is not unanimous. However, images of Jaguar's upcoming electric concept car have just leaked, and it's ultimately not as horrible as some were making it out to be.

Manage my choices

An elegant electric GT

Certainly, Jaguar is taking a new direction, that of 100% electric, but it is rather a choice constrained by European directives, which prohibit the sale of cars using a thermal engine after 2035, rather than a reversal of jacket from Jaguar.

Indeed, the manufacturer will present a concept in line with the history of Jaguar. Photos leaked on the Spanish forum Car Spias show a concept prefiguring a large, low, slender and elegant GT. The line of the roof is reminiscent of that of a Jaguar F-Type, itself inspired by the Jaguar E-Type, there are worse references!

The long hood, for its part, also evokes this past. In ancient times, it housed up to 12 cylinders; more recently, up to 8 cylinders. In the future, this long hood will house electric motors and perhaps a frunk (front trunk) due to the space freed up by the absence of a thermal engine.

A most modern style

Even if we see some elements that could link this concept car to other coupes from the Jaguar brand, the manufacturer is not making it a car with a neo-retro look.

At the front, there is no grille. Only a relief pattern in the shield evokes one. The front headlights are thin LED strips, while the A-pillars (of the windshield) are invisible.

We can notice the absence of a rear window on this concept car, like an Alpine A110 R or a Polestar 4. The latter uses a camera to replace the interior mirror, a solution that we could find on future Jaguars, if the absence of rear window is retained for the production models.

Since we are at the rear, we also notice these two strips of red LEDs replacing the traditional brake lights on each side of the vehicle. These LED strips frame a body-colored grille.

The wide fenders accommodate immense rims, with almost caricatured dimensions. There is little chance that such a wheel size will be retained on a production model. This would drastically reduce the range and pose complications in the event of changing tires. But in terms of style, it's a success.

This concept foreshadows series models

Jaguar cannot afford to give in. The manufacturer currently has no vehicles in production until 2026. An unprecedented situation in which an existing manufacturer no longer has any production of new vehicles.

This concept will serve as a working basis for several series models. In total, three electric grand tourer (GT) models are planned, including a large electric sedan inspired by the proportions of this concept. Jaguar has already revealed some elements of this sedan currently under development: its power will be 575 horsepower, promising a range of 700 km. This model should be Jaguar's second 100% electric vehicle after the I-Pace, currently at the heart of a takeover procedure by the brand in the United States.

The entire concept, with photos and technical specifications, should be published on the night of December 2 to 3, during Miami Week.
