“For 25 years, Free has been defined by strong values: simplicity, generosity, and of course passion for technological innovation.“: by this very little sentence corportateFree announces the launch of its brand new box, which will be available in a limited edition. The functions remain the same, but the design is accompanied by several interesting changes. We already knew that a new box was planned for the presentation for this week, here it is confirmed.

Thus, according to the press release, “our teams have imagined a new transparent version of the Freebox Ultra Server, which recalls the emblematic technological products of the 90s such as the iMac G3 or the Game Boy Color“. The case is therefore transparent, and allows LED lights to pass through, which can be customized according to the users' wishes. RGB customization is not new, but the fact of being able to benefit from it on a box is not new. is not common, the latter tending to favor discretion.
A Freebox with a transparent and bright design
Free specifies that, despite this new design a priori more energy consuming (obviously, when you add LEDs), this new Freebox “keeps energy consumption under control”by three different means: on the one hand, subscribers can deactivate the LED strip if they wish (using their Freebox Connect application, for example). They can also adjust the lighting of the LED strip. Finally, the default animation mode of the Freebox Ultra Limited Edition is the organic mode, namely the one which consumes the least (0.5 watts per hour more).
Although it is available today, it is still necessary to meet a few conditions to take advantage of this new Freebox: first, you must subscribe to a Freebox Ultra or Freebox Ultra Essential offer. As with the classic Freebox Ultra offers, this limited edition includes “the Ultra Limited Edition Internet Server, a Free 4K TV Player, a Wi-Fi 7 Repeater and a 4G pocket Wi-Fi“.
