sales of the Renault R5 limit the slaughter

All categories combined, the new Renault R5 E-Tech ranks seventh in the best-seller rankings in in November. A success, greater than that of the launch of the electric Scénic in the spring, despite a seventh consecutive month of decline for car sales in France.

Renault has managed to hold the bar, alongside Volkswagen, Skoda and Suzuki, in a market which continues to decline in France. For the month of November, the French manufacturer managed to explode its sales of electric cars by 77%, thanks to the arrival of the R5 E-Tech. Over the last four weeks, he has registered 3,303 copies of the electric city car (AAA Data figures), which allowed it to directly take over first position in sales of electric cars in France. In the general classification, all categories combined, the Renault R5 E-Tech takes seventh position.

Will the R5 keep its number 1 spot?

The pace is strong, but it is nevertheless difficult to know whether it will hold up over the coming months. Since May, Renault has offered interested parties early access to reservations for the R5 E-Tech, a sort of wire-cutting device supposed to limit the waiting time before receiving their car. It is difficult to know if among the reservations, a good part of the orders have already been made, or if Renault will have to spread them out over the coming months for the sake of production capacity. The brand has already intelligently taken the initiative to prioritize the release of the best-equipped versions of the R5 E-Tech.

While waiting for a first-price R5 E-Tech next year, the catalog of the electric city car has already opened to a version for less than 25,000 euros (with the ecological bonus), also allowing you to go through a leasing offer, in LLD at 150 euros per month (see our analysis of the offer). Speaking of ecological bonus, the latter decreases from today (December 2) and the R5 could also suffer the blow, despite the position of its offer, which we could categorize among these new electric models at less than 25,000 euros which depends enormously on government aid.

In parallel with the R5, Renault delivered 1,066 examples of its electric Scénic launched in the spring, a score which is not so positive since on the other hand, Tesla managed to sell its Model Y up to 3,125 copies. But the real competitor of the R5 which completes the podium of best electric sales in France in November 2024 is the Citroën ë-C3, with 1,232 examples delivered. Compared to November of last year, AAA Data specifies that sales volumes of electric cars in France fell by 24.4%?. Without the R5 E-Tech, the drop would have been even higher, at 35%. A more significant decline in the end than the sales of vehicles equipped with a diesel engine.
