This is an initiative that raises eyebrows. Doctolib, the company favored by the French for making medical appointments, will offer a new functionality in 2025 which has set things on fire. The idea is to bring together the patient's health data (medical results, prescriptions, treatments, allergies) in a tab called “Health”. Let's take stock.
Why is the Doctolib project going badly?
The company recently unveiled various tools that it plans to deploy on its app next year. But the idea of gathering user information on the service raises fears that Doctolib will compete with the shared medical file set up by Health Insurance since 2022.
The company specifies that it does not want under any circumstances “privatize the digital health record”and adds that its solutions are the main contributors to the “My health space” platform, while the State is one of the main shareholders of Doctolib via the Public Investment Bank. She finally emphasizes having proposed “100% interoperability” at the Ministry of Health, reports Land Monde.
Quoted by our colleagues, Thomas Fâtome, general director of My health space, believes for his part that collaboration between public and private actors in digital health has positive aspects. He nevertheless explains, in the present case:
But the reference place for hosting health data is the public service, with My health space. It is a choice of the legislator, and there is a real ambiguity in proposing another.
A forum denounces the Doctolib initiative
The discussions could have ended there, but that is not what happened. Indeed, the French daily received a request to publish an article from the digital health delegation (DNS). It is precisely the administration of the Ministry of Health which is following this file.
This text hits hard on the Doctolib initiative and denounces a risk of “valuation of our most sensitive data” and of “financialization of our health system”. Moreover, the DNS even took care to contact stakeholders in the world of health to encourage them to be among the signatories, which surprised certain doctors' unions.
Officially, the ministry is in no case opposed to this functionality of Doctolib, provided that “the regulatory framework is respected”.
