The presence of redcurrants on the stalls of the large covered market in Fort-de-France recalls the proximity of the Nativity. This herbaceous plant, with red stems and calyxes, is rich in vitamins, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and calcium. The prized red fruit, which is combined in all sauces, makes it possible to make syrup, liqueurs, juice, jams, cakes and ice creams.

On the market, 80% of production comes from one of the agricultural granaries of : the commune of Prêcheur.
