After the Olympic Games, artificial intelligence (AI)? Paris intends to once again attract global attention with the AI Action Summit, which will be hosted at the Grand Palais. On February 10 and 11, 100 heads of state from around the world will be invited, including the American Donald Trump and Chinese officials. A total of 700 personalities, business leaders – including Elon Musk or executives of American companies OpenAI, Google or Meta or French people like Mistral or LightOn – will be invited, but also “researchers or representatives of civil society”, said the Elysée on Friday November 29.
The first day of February 10 will be devoted to workshops and conferences, as well as demonstrations. In the evening a dinner will be organized at the Elysée with heads of state and personalities. The next morning, discussions between political leaders will take place and, at the same time, a « business day » highlighting businesses and other stakeholders. The preceding days will begin a “AI week” with February 6 and 7 “scientific days” and the weekend of February 8 and 9 cultural events.

To present itself as one of the world capitals of AI and stand out from previous summits, Paris is taking a fairly positive and optimistic line on this technology. “We will highlight the risks of AI, already well discussed in London, in November 2023 and in Seoul in May, but also the opportunities and benefits of this technology”explains the Elysée, praising the potential benefits of AI for health, the climate or productivity. Hence the name summit of the« action ». The first, organized in London, was devoted to the ” security ” and partly to the risks “catastrophic” or “existentials” related to AI.

“Inclusive” diplomatic approach
This line is a continuation of the position adopted by Emmanuel Macron who, over the last two years, has “personally involved” in the debates on the European AI Act regulation, described as a possible brake on innovation. The orientation also recalls that of the report of the AI commission, chaired by Anne Bouverot, now special envoy of the President of the Republic for the organization of the summit in February 2025. The summit should be an opportunity to publish the recommendations of the European AI Champions Initiative, a group of business leaders and institutional representatives responsible for fostering the creation of local giants.
