Morocco falls in the world tourism rankings

During a parliamentary session, MP Nadia Thami from the Progress and Socialism (PPS) group did not mince her words in front of the Minister of Tourism, Fatima-Zahra Ammor. Based on the report, she pointed out Morocco’s “average” performance, far from the ambitions displayed by the government. “Contrary to what is promoted internally”, the report highlights several obstacles hindering the development of the sector.

However, tourism is a centerpiece of the Moroccan economy, she says. A crucial source of foreign exchange and jobs, it is at the heart of national issues, particularly with the prospect of hosting large-scale international events in the years to come.

Faced with this alarming observation, the MP calls for an overhaul of the tourism strategy. Investments in infrastructure, innovation, international marketing, diversification of the offer and competitive prices are all avenues to explore to redress the situation. She thus questioned the minister on the concrete measures envisaged to “relaunch this sector and correct the dysfunctions from which it suffers”. The future of Moroccan tourism is at stake.
