Getting started with artificial intelligence: free MOOC and educational examples

Understand the principles ofartificial intelligenceits different techniques, its practical applications: the MOOC Elements of AI allows you to train for free basics of AI thanks to online courses accompanied by exercises. Launched by the University of Helsinki and the online training company MinnaLearn, it allows, thanks to a partnership with Sorbonne Universityto validate 2 ECTS credits for the establishment’s students. No prerequisites in programming or in mathematics is not necessary to follow the course.

This is divided into 6 chapters and allows you to better understand the different artificial intelligence methodsto become familiar with the types ofmachine learningTHE neural networksand practical applications of AI, such as self-driving cars. The idea behind this MOOC is to “help people feel empowered, not threatened, by AI,” says the Elements of AI website. 950,000 students have already registered, coming from more than 170 countries.

In the field of education in particular, the applications of artificial intelligence are numerous. Documentation teachers in particular can use it to automate uninteresting tasks and concentrate on the educational side of their job. They can also use it as a study object with their students.

In connection with the Educatech 2024 exhibition which has just taken place, the Drane (Regional Academic Delegation for Educational Digital) Île-de- is offering a reflection workshop on educational uses of AI. Four teachers share their experience in video:
-Laure Savourat, English teacher in a college in Seine-et-, which uses the Mizou platform to create un chatbot allowing students to question suspects as part of a fictional police investigation.
-Frank Tarin, spanish teacher at the teaching unit of the Montsouris day hospital, which teaches adolescents suffering from serious psychological disorders. His project consists, among other things, of “directly involving students in the development of prompts intended for AI tools. »
-Mélanie Fenaert, professor of Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) and Digital Sciences and Technology (SNT) at the Blaise Pascal high school in Orsay, involves his students in the creation of Vita, an educational chatbot.
– Yohann Le Boulair, mathematics teacher at the Lycée international de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, has created a Virtual Lab which allows students to explore the uses of AI, and has set up a completely original initiative: students using AI create educational materialsand play the role of teachers in a flipped classroom.
