Thursday, November 28, around 2 p.m., a police patrol wanted to carry out a routine check on a 53-year-old motorist, residing in the region, driving in the village of Lentigny (FR). Despite the police signals being activated, this driver did not stop. He accelerated while trying to outrun the police car.
During the chase, near Chénens station, he endangered pedestrians. A little later, on a side road, he pretended to stop. When the patrol wanted to arrest him, he suddenly reversed and hit the front of the police car. He repeated this maneuver twice before fleeing again.
He continued his route towards Romont, repeatedly endangering road users during reckless overtaking at high speed. The police were distanced from the fleeing vehicle, without losing sight of it. Finally, the offending vehicle stopped in front of a public establishment and the driver rushed inside the building.
There, he physically resisted his arrest and had to be restrained by force. To our knowledge, no injuries have been reported. The driving license was immediately seized and various checks are underway to determine his physical condition. He will be reported to the competent authority.
Pedestrians and road users who have been put in danger by the faulty behavior of this driver are asked to contact the engagement and alarm center of the Friborg cantonal police, at n° 026 / 347 01 17.
