After the affair of the missing Teslas, here is the affair of the unknown vehicles on the Tesla test circuit located in Fremont, California.
It regularly happens that the Fremont factory and its test circuit are flown over by drones in order to spot the latest new products before the others. This is the case of the Youtuber ‘Met God in Wilderness’, whose drones periodically fly over the site.
During his last video, from November 24, 2024, he spotted a series of eight covered vehicles, the shape of which does not correspond to any Tesla model currently on the market and some of which are among the best electric cars.
What are these vehicles hiding under the tarpaulins in Fremont?
According to the video, we notice three or four different types of vehicles. From there, knowing exactly what they are is quite complex since you can only guess the shape and only see the bottom of the wheels.
In addition, it sometimes happens that manufacturers add additional shapes to the tarpaulins, in order to prevent anything from coming out of their visual inspection.
The media editor electrekwho spotted the video on YouTube, thinks it may be new Tesla products like a smaller version of the Model 3 and a smaller version of the Model Y. Under a final tarpaulin, the journalist thinks about the new Model Y Juniper.
In a different range, the media insideevs thinks of vehicles from another brand which would serve as a benchmark (basis of comparison) for Tesla for the tests of its own models, which is quite amusing since it is rather Tesla vehicles which generally serve as comparison to other manufacturers.
According to the journalist, the covered vehicles are of two types: seven are crossovers and one is a low car, probably sedan type.
After a close visual inspection, the journalist believes that two of the crossovers are Polestar 3s, based on the shape of their roofs. Two others could be Volvo EC40s whose rear is more pronounced, but squarer than a Model Y (he doesn’t think the Model Y Juniper is in the lot). The final vehicle could be an Audi E-Tron GT or a Porsche Taycan.
Volvo and Polestar use the same platforms and powertrains in different vehicles, making it an interesting benchmark. In addition, the Audi and the Porsche have both been revised this year and are therefore more powerful models with more autonomy (with larger batteries).
However, doubts remain. Indeed, Tesla is reportedly working on a new platform, called NV9X, which will serve as the basis for several future vehicles, including a new crossover (Project Redwood) as well as a replacement for the Model S.
However, it is unlikely that the project is already sufficiently advanced for vehicles to be already available (at least in the case of the new Model S) and if there is already a crossover, there is little chance that Tesla will put it highlighted in this way.
It is therefore more likely that the cars, which are also located at the test circuit, are there for benchmarking reasons. Moreover, the media points out that Tesla had already used a Lucid Air in 2022 on this Fremont test circuit.
