A video game that allows you to relive the attacks of October 7, 2023 banned in the United Kingdom

A video game, allowing the player to relive the attacks of October 7, 2023 in the shoes of a Hamas activist, has caused great controversy in the United Kingdom, which has banned its sale on its territory.

Fursan al-Aqsa : The Knights of the Al-Aqsa Mosquewhich was launched in 2022 on the platform Steam and which is still available in several countries, including Canada, already hit the headlines last year when several users on X raised concerns about the messages it conveyed since it allowed players to simulate attacks against Israel .

However, earlier this month, Nidal Nijm, the Brazilian developer of the game, launched an update to its game to allow the player to recreate several aspects of the October 7 attacks.

In a trailer presented on the Mega platform, we can see Hamas fighters landing on a military base with motorized paragliders to kill soldiers.

“Where are those wearing explosive belts? Where are they ? Come here, I want a belt of explosives to blow me over the Zionists,” we can read in a message broadcast during the first seconds of the video.

Several violent images follow one another, including the execution of an Israeli soldier, shot in the back of the head while she was kneeling.

The game’s Steam page does not mention Hamas, but the player plays a character who wears the organization’s distinctive green headband, and the game makes a direct link to the armed group by mentioning the name of the operation.

According to 404 Media, Valvethe company responsible for Steamnotified the developer that its game had been removed from the market on October 22, 2024.

However, according to Nidal Nijm, his game is no different from games Call Of Duty.

“I don’t blame Valve or SteamI blame the UK government and its authorities for getting angry at a video game, he said. If we trust their rotten logic, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 should also be banned, since we play an American soldier who goes to Iraq to kill Iraqis. We clearly see a double standard.”
