The Audi Q5 Sportback is renewed from top to bottom, but retains the essentials

After the new Q5, which was one of the stars of the Audi stand at the Motor Show, here is its “coupe” version, the Sportback.

The pirouette is not new (since the BMW X6), but still works as well. Take an SUV, lower its roof while accentuating its fall even if it means reducing the rear space and the trunk somewhat, and you obtain a successful model. In order to gain profitability, you can also increase the price of a few thousand euros for an equivalent version.

Whether at BMW, Mercedes or Audi, the recipe pleases. This is how the firm with the rings is renewing its Q5 Sportback, the ingredients of which remain identical. While taking up the front part of the last Q5, this variant is more slender and the whole appears coherent. You recognize the Audi style at first glance.

This dashboard is becoming common in Audi interiors.
The trunk is not extraordinary, but remains close to the Q5.

However, it is completely renewed by adopting the new PPC platform (Premium Platform Combustion), but it retains a similar size. In terms of trunk volume, it varies from 515 to 1,415 liters and from 470 to 1,388 liters in the SQ5 version. Its capacity is therefore average while remaining close to the last Q5.

The interior is also completely revised, but entirely taken from the Q5 with in particular this great come on bringing together 11.9-inch instrumentation and a 14.5-inch touch screen. A third 10.5-inch screen, dedicated to the passenger, can be checked in the options box. Everything runs under Android Automotive even if the graphics are specific to those of the brand. As for the rear passenger, legroom will be generous, but we still need to check the roof clearance.

It is in this view that the Q5 Sportback stands out the most.

Under the hood, it benefits from revised mechanics including the support of a 48V hybridization which generates 24 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The 2.0 TFSI with 204 hp and 340 Nm of torque serves as entry-level (traction or quattro). A 2.0 TDI with the same power, but stronger in torque with 400 Nm, is in reinforcement, only in quattro.

A beautiful V6 under the hood

Audi also offers the SQ5 Sportback which benefits from V6 3.0 TFSI de 367 cha version that is at the very least desirable on paper. However, you must pay a penalty of between €35,346 and €51,912 according to the 2024 scale. Otherwise, the 2.0 TFSI starts at €1,901 penalty and the 2.0 TDI at €3,119.

The SQ5 Sportback will not be common on our roads because of its high penalty.

Finally, orders for the new Q5 Sportback will be open from December 5. Prices start at €59,750 while the Q5 starts lower: €57,550. For the SQ5 version, you need to count at least €101,130. In the months that followed, two versions plug-in hybrids allowing you to drive approximately 80 km without burning a drop of gasoline will emerge.
