A sharp object was found in a bag of treats, which was allegedly handed out by two women in their 50s, during the Santa Claus parade in Sherbrooke on Sunday.
Updated yesterday at 10:12 p.m.
The suspects were not part of the parade, according to the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS). Carrying their treats in a reusable bag, they were in the crowd at the corner of King Street East and 14e Avenue.
Around thirty police officers were on site during the parade. When they were notified of the event by a bystander, they began an investigation, which is still ongoing.
Contacted by The PressMélanie Breton, a citizen who was there, said she was “in shock”. Her child ate treats handed out by two ladies in their fifties, in the same area where the suspects were. Her child, however, did not find any sharp objects in the treats, and is doing well.
Mélanie Breton was waiting for the start of the parade with her two children, aged 4 and 2.
“I had to leave at the start of the parade because one of my boys was cold,” she explains. One of the ladies allegedly gave her child a bag of treats just before the family left. This child would have eaten candy before Mélanie Breton noticed the police report.
The SPS is concerned that other sharp objects may be in the treats distributed. She invites citizens who have information to contact 819-821-5555.
