Peasant revolt against the digital portal of the Confederation

On an entire page of the farmers’ newspaper, farmers and producers call for a break with the law in force by boycotting the Digiflux portal, reports the “NZZ am Sonntag”. Or not to provide data to this new digital portal of the Confederation. The signatories, some 200 individuals and companies in the agricultural sector grouped within the “rienadeclarer.ch” association, motivate their appeal by the unbearable workload that Digiflux would entail. Because their administrative burden increases every year and has already reached an unbearable level, as explained by the farmer and boss of the Aachtal Futter SA company, Kilian Zwick, also a founding member and president of the association.

The Federal Office of Agriculture (FOAG) says it is surprised by this boycott of the declaration obligation. Christian Hofer, the director, however, starts from the principle “that everyone will respect the law” without wanting to speculate already today on another scenario. His office did many things right when introducing Digiflux – such as visiting farms and making direct contact with users. The first farms to use the tool would also be convinced of it. Out of consideration for farmers, Bern nevertheless postponed the introduction of Digiflux by a year and guaranteed notable reductions, underlines Christian Hofer.

For environmentalist Franziska Herren, the call for a boycott is “truly insolent”. Digiflux would be a big step towards more transparency in the opinion of the Aargau activist for clean drinking water: “We would finally see how much slurry and poison we are spreading in too large quantities on our fields.” This boycott would also have political significance: “Creating this transparency was a big promise made to voters. If the project was not implemented, politics will once again have lied to the population.”
