In a recent article, our colleagues from MoneyVox responded to a question posed by a retired reader. In her message, the latter presented herself as an unpaid and unpaid craftsman's wife. She would receive some aid and wondered if it would increase next year. Like the subject could concern other retirees among our readers, we also decided to make an article about it. Find out the answer in the next lines.

An allowance benefiting certain retirees

The help this reader is talking about MoneyVox is of course Aspa or Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly. First, what exactly is it? You certainly know it under the name of minimum old age.

In fact, this aid exists for guarantee a minimum income to the most modest retirees. According to a recent study by the Drees (Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics), Aspa benefits 559,220 people in at the end of 2022.

Like other allowances, this boost intended to guarantee a decent standard of living for retirees is paid under conditions. So, it is accessible from 65 years old or from the legal retirement age in the event of incapacity for work.

To qualify for Aspa, it is imperative to evaluate the resources of the applicant and their spouse. Among these resources: pensions, earned income, property income and rental income. That said, the calculation does not include housing assistance and family benefits.

A revaluation expected in January 2025

To return to the initial question, yes, the Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly will indeed benefit from an increase from January 1, 2025. Concerned retirees, like this reader of MoneyVoxcan therefore rejoice.

As a reminder, this will not be the case for basic pensions. Their revaluation will not finally take place until next July due to budgetary constraints. Aspa and minimum old age allowances will follow inflation from the start of the year.

This measure, announced by the government in the Social Security financing bill, is a breath of oxygen for the most modest retirees. In fact, the latter will see their purchasing power preserved in the face of rising prices.

How much will the retirees affected receive?

This is the question that beneficiaries of the Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly are asking themselves. Certainly, the government has confirmed that this benefit will be increased next January, in line with inflation. However, the exact amount of this increase still remains uncertain.

According to calculations by the CFDT-Retraités, by applying the regulatory formula, the Aspa would increase by 2.2% in 2025. If applicable, it would thus increase from 1012.02 euros to 1034.28 euros. However, the government for its part mentions annual inflation “around 1.8%”.

However, this would imply a revaluation of Aspa to 1030.24 euros. This vagueness can therefore be explained by the different methods of calculating inflation. In any case, the retirees concerned must wait for official government announcements to find out the final amount of their future pension.
