“More than 95% of users are winners” swears Bruno Bernard

From September 1, 2025, users of the Libellule de Villefranche-sur-Saône and Cars du Rhône networks will travel on the same network as the Grands Lyonnais, namely the TCL.

Pricing will also be unified, and the ticketing system will be shared.

Five fare zones have been created and will come into force next fall. “With this new pricing, more than 95% of current users benefit, either through a reduction in cost or an extension of the travel perimeter”slips Bruno Bernard, president of Sytral.

However, TCL prices will increase on January 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026. For residents, the unit ticket will increase this winter from 2 euros to 2.10 euros. The book of 10 tickets will go from 19.50 euros to 20 euros. The 24-hour ticket will increase from 6.70 euros to 6.90 euros…

And subscriptions are not left out. The most popular, the monthly 26-64 year old, will be at 74.10 euros on January 1, 2025, compared to 72.60 euros today. The 65 and over subscription will increase from 36.30 euros to 37 euros. On the other hand, Sytral will not affect student and 18-25 year old subscriptions. At least not before 2026, with a euro increase scheduled in two years.

Please note, RhônExpress prices will also increase. The one-way ticket (15.20 euros on the Internet, 16.70 euros at the distributor) will drop to 16 euros on the Internet, 17.10 euros at the distributor. And the round trip (26.70 euros on the Internet, 29.10 at the distributor) will increase to 28 euros on the Internet and 29.80 at the distributor… And the Sytral even announces the increases for 2026, since the one-way tickets will increase to 16.30 euros (Internet) and 17.40 (distributor), and round trips to 28.50 (Internet) and 30.30 euros (distributer).

Areas that drown fish?

So how can Bruno Bernard estimate that more than 95% of subscribers will be “winners” ? The environmentalist bases himself on the prices which will be proposed on September 1, 2025, based on the principle that users will want to move from one zone to another. “Current users of the TCL network will benefit from an expanded scope at an equivalent price while more than 80% of schools in the Cars du Rhône network will see the price of their subscription drop by up to -50%. Users of the Libellule network will benefit from an extended service area.explains vice-president Jean-Charles Kohlhaas.

Indeed, today, traveling by public transport from Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise or Belleville-en-Beaujolais to Place Bellecour is expensive since you have to buy different tickets. Tomorrow, special interzone rates will greatly benefit those who cross the department by bus or coach. Furthermore, solidarity pricing for TCLs will apply everywhere, with free access for children under 10 and people with low incomes.

A trip to cross any area of the Rhône will cost you the modest sum of 3.70 euros on September 1, 2025. And the monthly subscription for 26-64 year olds covering the five zones will be set at 90 euros.

In 2026, Sytral will therefore think in terms of zones. Zone 1, representing the territory of the Lyon Metropolis (without Quincieux, Lissieu, Genay, La-Tour-de-Salvagny, Marcy-l'Etoile, Jonage, , Charly, Vernaison and Givors relegated to zone 2), is obviously the most “expensive” and will be excluded from the most affordable subscriptions.

Users will therefore be obliged to subscribe within two years to the “Zones 1+2” or “All zones” subscription to travel within the Lyon metropolitan area. And, surprise, subscriptions will increase in 2026. The monthly 26-64 year old will be at 75.90 euros, compared to 74.10 euros in 2025.

The single ticket will not change in 2026. On the other hand, the 10-trip ticket will increase from 20 to 20.50 euros, and the 24-hour pass from 6.90 to 7.10 euros.

Evil tongues will therefore say that the Greater Lyonnais will pay more to allow the rest of the Rhone residents to travel more easily by public transport.

“SYTRAL Mobilités is not immune to this reality which affects all public transport networks in . To continue our essential mission of developing public transport, we are forced to change the prices of certain tickets on the current TCL network However, we have chosen not to increase the prices of the Libellule and Cars du Rhône networks on January 1, 2025, in line with the implementation of unified pricing in September 2025.admits Bruno Bernard.
