Rhone. Public transport with five fare zones: what will change

After a brilliant presentation, last Wednesday, in a very “clubbing” atmosphere, of the future unified TCL network, place at the back, with the vote on the unified pricing of the public transport network which will be developed from September 2025, in the Rhône region.

The board of directors of Sytral Mobilités will examine this issue this Thursday, which will unite under the same banner, TCL, the current urban transport network of the Lyon metropolitan area, the Cars du Rhône and the Libellule network. (Villefranche-Beaujolais-Sâone urban community).

The users of these three networks which will be brought together will have a single title, a single subscription, a single application, a single information site. But what about the prices? The file will have to be submitted for debate and a vote but a first corner of the veil has been lifted, with the mention of five tariff zones, as in Ile-de-France. Ile-de-France which for its part has chosen the opposite path… by leaving the zoning system to move towards a single tariff from 2025, for greater simplicity.

“90-95% of users will gain from this pricing”, promises Jean-Charles Kohlhaas

Concerning the Rhone version pricing zones, they will be concentric. The central zone will start in Lyon, with gradual enlargement. “Zones 1 and 2 correspond to the current, expanded TCL zone,” Jean-Charles Kohlhaas, 1, explained last Wednesday.^is vice-president of Sytral Mobilités, “each time we subscribe, we will need at least two zones”. The notion of distance should come into play in the price.

According to the elected official, “90-95% of users will benefit from this pricing”. Currently, a classic subscription in Lyon costs €72.60 per month for 26-64 year olds. A formula common to the three networks (TCL + Cars du Rhône + Libellule), the Rhône Pass 26-64 years old, already exists, at the price of €85 per month. So, which way will the new prices go? Response normally expected this Thursday. Free admission for children under 10 has been confirmed.

The quorum question

The file should achieve consensus, provided it can be debated and voted on, because with the holding of the Congress of mayors and presidents of intermunicipality of France, in Paris, elected officials could be absent and the question of quorum possibly arise.
